Drug addiction is a complex neurobiological disease that affects a person's brain and behaviour and leads to an inability to control the use of a legal or illegal drug or medication. It is considered as a brain disease because excessive use of drug changes the brain by increasing the dopamine secretion and it induces the brain signals. Without proper treatment, these brain changes can affect the lives.
The proper medication for addiction helps the process easier by easing the cravings and side effects. It can also be treated with inpatient treatment plus a comprehensive aftercare program where drug addicts can find lasting relief from the ravages of chemical dependency, regardless of how long they’ve been addicted.
